2 Choices
During our last mini debrief, one of my incredibly wise teammates shared a story with our squad and then asked us a really challenging question. This story really gave me a lot of perspective and challenged me on how I have been walking a missional lifestyle with the Lord. Her question really empowered me to make one of 2 choices every day. I want to share these with you to empower you in your daily walk with the Lord.
The story was the like the flip of a coin; same story, two sides.
The first side goes something like this,
It’s Monday morning, you wake up for work, late and quickly get ready. On the way to your job, you stop at your favorite local coffee shop to grab a quick cup of joe. As you go to grab your cup, the barista accidently knocks it over and you frustrated, say it’s fine and run of to work. At work, you have a coworker struggling to get things done for the day and asking for help, but you think someone else will help. I am tired and am not in the mood. So you don’t help them. At the end of the day you, as your getting ready to leave, you see them crying with a pile of work still to do. You feel bad for not having helped and you would have stayed to help but you have dinner plans with your friends. So you leave and head downtown to the restaurant. You park, grab your purse, and check your watch. Your on time and can’t wait to dig into some delicious food because you are so hungry. As your walking towards the restaurant, you pass by a gentlemen on the street who looks so hungry and you think, ‘He looks hungry, I should grab him some food, but it will have to be after dinner’. You meet up with your friends and have a great dinner, grabbing an extra meal on your way out. As you walk to the car you look for the man, but he is gone. You head home exhausted and go to bed ready to start another day in the morning.
The flip goes like this:
It’s Monday morning, you wake up for work, late, and quickly get ready. On the way to your job, you stop at your favorite local coffee shop to grab a quick cup of joe. As you go to grab your cup, the barista accidently knocks it over and you frustrated, pause and take a deep breath. You notice that she is the only worker and is working so hard. You tell her it’s okay, that she is doing a great job, and that she is so loved by God. Then you throw an extra 10 in the tip jar. At work, you have a coworker struggling to get things done for the day and asking for help. You’re tired, but you don’t have a lot to do and you offer to help them out. While working with them you ask them questions about their life and learn they have been taking care of their mother in hospice and that is why they are behind. You pray for them and give them a hug. At the end of the day you, as your getting ready to leave you walk out with them laughing about the fun you had today. You leave and head downtown to meet your friends for dinner. You park, grab your purse, and check your watch. Your on time and can’t wait to dig into some delicious food because you are so hungry. As your walking towards the restaurant, you pass by a gentlemen on the street who looks so hungry and you think, ‘He looks hungry, I should grab him some food, but I have dinner with my friends’. You meet up with your friends and invite them to join you in taking dinner to the man and praying over him. You all skip your dinner plans to share Jesus’ love with this man. You grab some food to go, head home full of joy, and go to bed ready to start another day in the morning.
The first story is what most everyone of us would do on the daily. Nothing done in this day is bad, but in this story so many opportunities to share God’s love are missed because of not seeing. The second is through the lens of God.
Each day we have 2 choices throughout the day; Am I going to act out of my perspective or out of God’s perspective?
I felt so empowered by the potential of walking through the selfless eyes of God each day. I most certainly will miss it sometimes, but how crazy cool that I get to start fresh and grow in partnership with the Father every day.
I hope in reading this the Lord can empower you to see the World through His eyes and make a choice each day to say yes to what he shows you!
What will you choose?
Great stories! We all need to be aware of the needs of others! We are always blessed by helping others! Love and Hugs!!
