The Girl Who Said Yes!
There was once a girl who grew up with everything she ever needed. She graduated high school and went to college like she was supposed to. She grew up in a Christian home, going to church like she was supposed to. She was baptized, led in college ministry, went on missions, and loved every minute. She did everything she thought she was supposed to do. She loved God.
But there was something she always felt was missing in her life. She always felt there was more meant for life. That she wasn't living up to the calling in her life and faith, she was getting ready to graduate college and decide what was next in her life. Did she go find a job and start building her 401k and credit score? Should she start "adulting"? Or was there something more?
She had heard of this trip called the World Race while in college and dreamed of going on it. She had prayed to God about if this was an option for her. She had talked and researched and binge watched every vlog she could find. But when she reached the crossroads she found herself debating between taking the path the world told her she needed to take to be an "adult", or the path that God was laying out for her through the World Race.
On the one hand, the worldly path was safe, known, and secure; it would set her up for a future set in comfort with all her friends and family nearby. She wouldn't have to worry about money, housing, retirement, or new relationships. On the other, the World Race was scary, unknown, and asking for abandonment: it would set her up for a future set in discomfort, true intimacy with the Lord, community unlike anything she could imagine, and the most fulfilling purpose to share abounding love with everyone she met. The World Race would lead her to having to trust the Lord with her living expenses and future, as well as, offer a life of love, redemption, and freedom.
If you are subscribed to these blogs, or currently reading this blog, then I bet you can guess who she is and which path she chose....
Yep! She is me and choosing to follow the path God called me too was by far the scariest thing I have ever done, but it has also been the most rewarding. Choosing to say yes to him has brought me closer to him and the journey is never over, but adventuring through life with God is so much better than living life in comfort.
I share this story to encourage anyone reading to say Yes! to God. Can it be scary, challenging, and discomforting at times? Yes. But I have also found it to be full of redemption, everlasting love, deep intimacy, and freedom. It is so worth it to me to walk through life with God. Is he worth your yes?
